Carson is a city in Grant County, North Dakota in the United States. It is the county seat of Grant County[Geographic references#6GR6]. The population was 319 at the 2000 census. Carson was founded in 1910.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²), all land.
Demographics
As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 319 people, 154 households, and 83 families residing in the city. The population density was 30.6/km² (79.4/mi²). There were 201 housing units at an average density of 19.3/km² (50.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.87% White, 1.25% from other races, and 1.88% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.25% of the population.There were 154 households out of which 23.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 45.5% were non-families. 44.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 30.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.07 and the average family size was 2.92.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 31.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 85.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $19,722, and the median income for a family was $23,056. Males had a median income of $16,806 versus $21,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,754. About 16.3% of families and 21.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.3% of those under age 18 and 19.0% of those age 65 or over.
