Catty

A catty (Chinese: 斤) is a measurement of weight from the European colonial times in the Far East, commonly found in wet markets and in supermarkets in Hong Kong. Originating from Malaysia where it is equivalent to 604.79 grams, it is also used in Thailand (600 grams) and China (500 grams). In Mandarin Chinese, the unit is pronounced jīn.
This unit is also spelled in various other ways such as caddy and kati.
A picul (Chinese: 担) is 100 catties.
