Cavalier Aircraft Corporation was a Sarasota, Florida, airplane manufacturer whose most famous products were refurbished
P-51D Mustangs known as "Cavalier Mustangs." The company was contracted in
1966 by the
Department of Defense to refurbish P-51s that were to be supplied to
Latin American countries for use in the counter-insurgency role as part of
Operation Condor. The main impriovements included Merlin 620 engines taken from C-54GM transports (1720hp compared to the original 1590hp), strengthened wings for additional hardpoints, optional wingtanks, and a taller fin. These airplanes led to the development of the Piper Enforcer.
