A celebrity sex tape is a home video of sex acts, as performed by a celebrity and his or her partner, which finds Internet and/or bootleg distribution and made available to an audience for which it was not intended.
It is generally illegal for a person to distribute celebrity sex tapes because many of the videos exist in some copyrighted form. Some of the videos are illegal in certain jurisdictions due to being child pornography. However, at least some tapes, such as 1 Night in Paris, are distributed with the willing participation of the involved parties.

Famous celebrity sex tapes
Famous celebrity sex tapes include:
- Actress Sharon Tate and her husband, director Roman Polanski, made a sex tape in 1969 on the analog reel to reel video equipment of the time. This tape, whose long rumored existence was confirmed by Polanski in his autobiography, was seized by the Los Angeles Police Department as part of evidence for the Manson Family murders. Unconfirmed reports have claimed that it was stolen from LAPD vaults by a police officer and sold to a private collector.
- A celebrity sex tape of actor Steve Guttenberg was reportedly leaked in the late 1980s, but it did not achieve wide distribution or popularity.
- The first internet celebrity sex video, the honeymoon of Pamela Anderson and then-husband Tommy Lee, was placed online by Internet Entertainment Group in 1998.
- Figure skater Tonya Harding and Jeff Gillooly. Commonly billed as a "wedding night sex video" because it begins with Harding in a wedding dress; however, the dress was a Halloween costume.
- Paris Hilton and then-boyfriend Rick Salomon shot in so-called night-vision. This footage, along with additional full-color footage, was sold under the title 1 Night in Paris. There have been rumors of other tapes starring Paris but none have been confirmed as real.
- Popular actor Colin Farrell admitted that a 13-minute sex tape he made with ex-girlfriend Nicole Narain exists. He was successful in obtaining a court order to block its distribution, but in January 2006 copies appeared on the internet.
- Gena Lee Nolin (another Baywatch alum) and her ex-husband Greg Fahlman.
- Jenna Lewis from Survivor and her husband on their wedding night.
- Taiwanese television reporter and politician Chu Mei-feng that was secretly videotaped by Taiwanese paparazzi magazine, The Inside Scoop (獨家報導).
- The ex-husband of model Carolyn Murphy, Jake Schroeder allegedly tried to sell a tape featuring him and his ex-wife having sex during their honeymoon in 1999 whilst in Barbados.[link] In January 2006 Schroeder was arrested and charged with extortion for trying to sell the tape [link]. The video was leaked onto the internet in April 2006 [link].
- Model Jordan was seen in a sex tape. It was allegedly stolen from her car.
- Actor Rob Lowe appeared in a tape with two female fans, one of whom was underage, though he was not aware of this.
- Adult film actress Janine Lindemulder and rock star Vince Neil appeared in a tape together.
- R&B and Soul singer R Kelly made a sex tape in February 2002 with, allegedly, a 14 year old daughter of an associate.
- British TV personality Abi Titmuss appeared in a tape with her boyfriend John Leslie and an unidentified woman.
- Professional wrestlers Joanie Laurer (better known as Chyna) and Sean Waltman (aka X-Pac) which is being sold under the title 1 Night in China.
- Croatian pop music star Severina Vučković having sex with Milan Lučić, a Herzegovina business tycoon who was married to another woman at the time. The video devastated Severina's public image. Severina sued the internet distributor for copyright infringement as well as invasion of privacy, but the case was dismissed.
- Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst and an unknown female, which was stolen from his computer in February 2005.
- Former sportscaster Jayne Kennedy also had a sex tape stolen and released showing her with former husband Leon Isaac Kennedy. It is extreme in terms of sexual acts.
- Rapper Eve made a sex tape in 1999 of which a brief clip was posted on the Internet in 2005.
- Actor Tom Sizemore is featured in approximately 8 hours of sex video involving multiple women published on the Internet on August 18 2005 by a company named ifreeloader.
- The sex adventures of Pamela Anderson and vocalist of the metal band Poison Bret Michaels were released as a DVD on September 7 2005 by Metro Studios. However, the footage has been circulating on the internet for many years.
- Turkish model Gamze Özçelik was recorded via cell phone unconscious with an unknown man having sex with her. She later claimed that the man was her ex-boyfriend Gökhan Demirkol, and sued him for giving her drugs to record the video.
- Australian celebrity Mimi McPherson, sister of Elle McPherson, appeared having sex with her then boyfriend in a home-made video.
- Kid Rock and former Creed lead singer Scott Stapp are featured in a 45 minutes sex video with four fans on the tour bus [link]. Kid Rock is suing World Wide Red Light District company to try to stop them from distributing the tape [link].
- Bam Margera and Jen Rivell have a sex tape that was released in 2003.
- Gülben Ergen, a Turkish singer, is featured in a sex video leaked out by an ex-boyfriend in 2006.
- Stars from Big Brother: Norway, Linni Meister and Kristian Hilberg, were filmed having sex. The video is featured on the Internet.
- Imogen Thomas from Big Brother 7 UK is featured in a 19mb 7 minute video.
Rumoured or disputed sex tapes
Many tapes that are released or believed to be available can claim to be of a particular celebrity but certain factors challenge the validity of these claims. In the case of disputed tapes many things such as poor quality video, bad lighting and similarities in physical features can make many question whether the tape is of the celebrity mentioned. While in cases where there is no video or clips available it will generally be regarded as rumoured until further evidence arises.
- In 2006 some websites reported that a sex tape involving Ashlee Simpson had leaked onto the internet. A few screenshots also accompanied the report. However, many dispute the reports and believe that the photos and alleged video are fake.
- A film in the 1950s called The Apple Knockers and the Coke was purported to feature Marilyn Monroe, but is now recognized to star Playboy model Arline Hunter. A disputed film believed by many to star Monroe exists, and is in the collection of the Hollywood Erotic Museum.
- In 2001, a near-30-minute video appearing on the Internet depicted a couple having sex, who were later said to be Hungarian ex-gymnast and TV reporter Zsuzsa Csisztu and rifle shooting olympic champion Attila Solti. Despite the striking resemblances and Solti being mentioned on the video as "the one handling the camera", both continue to deny the accusations.
- Australian actress Kate Ritchie, star of TV soap "Home & Away" allegedly featured in a sex tape with Jonathan Gentle. However it has never been confirmed (or denied) that it actually is Ms Ritchie in the video.
- It is rumoured that a copy of a sextape involving Britney Spears and her husband Kevin Federline had been stolen from Spears' home in 2005. US Weekly published this rumour and Spears sued the magazine in December 2005.
- Kelsey Grammer sued Internet Entertainment Group under the mistaken impression that it had purchased from Grammer's former girlfriend Cerlette Lamme, a sex tape the couple had made. He dropped the suit after IEG countersued and stated that it had not bought or possessed the video his ex-girlfriend had been trying to sell. Grammer reportedly bought the tape from his former girlfriend for $1 million.[link]
- It is reported that Paris Hilton has made a lesbian sex tape with playmate Nicole Marie Lenz. Lenz has spoken about this in an interview with the British newspaper News of the World. [link] This rumor was first reported in November 2003. [link]
- It is rumoured that a sex video in which soccer stars Frank Lampard, Kieron Dyer, and Rio Ferdinand were in a tape uncovered in 2000. In it they were sleeping with two women in Spain.
- An alleged sex tape of O.J. Simpson and two prostitutes was distributed over the internet in June 2006 at http://www.badoj.com. Simpson's lawyer claims acknowledges that Simpson does appear fully-clothed in the tape, but that the man engaged in sex acts with the same women is simply a look-alike. The tape's distributor maintains that the man in the tape is, in fact, Simpson [link].
Fake or fraudulent sex tapes
Some videos that have surfaced can allege to be of a particular celebrity but have turned out to be fake.- In the 1970s, a porno film was purported to feature Barbra Streisand before she became a star. The clip has floated around for decades and the woman does bear a striking resemblance to Streisand. The woman has since been revealed to be porn star Tasha Voux. According to Streisand, she actually viewed the film herself out of curiosity. [link]
- TLC host Paige Davis - A video, allegedly made by her and her ex-boyfriend in 1997, surfaced in December 2004. It was later reported that the woman was not Davis.
- In 2002 a sex tape featuring a woman alleged to be Christina Aguilera appeared on the internet. Experts determined that it was not Aguilera, and was merely a lookalike.
- A tape of an American local TV reporter named Allison Williams with her cameraman led to the reporter's dismissal. The tape has since circulated with the false claim that it depicts a different Allison Williams, who was Miss West Virginia 2003. The latter Williams has sued websites advertising the tape for sale or download.
- A tape was released that allegedly featured American Pie star Alyson Hannigan nude and performing oral sex on an unidentified man. This turned out to be the adult movie actress Luna Lane.
- Early in Britney Spears' career a video appeared around the internet entitled "pre fame sex tape", that was supposedly of Spears. Upon close inspection the woman in the video is clearly not Spears and only bore a resemblance to Spears.
- A nude model by the name of Leanna Scott made an adult film, looking nearly identical to popular model Tila Nguyen. A rumor started that Tila had made a hardcore porn film earlier in her career. Nguyen publicly announced on her Myspace blog that it was not her in the video.
- Serbian tabloid claimed that Maja Mandzuka, Serbian actress, shot a porn movie, and published few screenshots. It was soon discovered that the screenshots were from a mainstream hardcore porn movie, and the actress in the movie was not Maja but some unidentified porn actress.[link]
