Central of Georgia Railroad

The Central of Georgia Railway was constructed to join the Macon and Western Railroad at Macon, Georgia to the Atlantic coastal railroads at Savannah, Georgia. This created a rail link from Chattanooga on the Tennessee River to seaports on the Atlantic Ocean. The famous passenger train the Nancy Hanks, which ran from Atlanta to Savannah, used this road southeast of Macon.
In 1971 it was renamed the Central of Georgia Railroad, which still exists as a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern. Forty-two miles of the CG's former mailine are now leased by the Chattooga and Chickamauga Railway from the State of Georgia.
