Cernica

Cernica is a commune in the south-east of Ilfov County, Romania with a population of 9,300.
The Cernica lake is located in Cernica. On the St. Gheorghe island in that lake is a monastery built in about 1608.
The name of the commune is derived from the name of the vornic Cernica Ştirbei and is of Slavic origin, being derived from černo (meaning black).
