Cesarewitch (horse race)

The Cesarewitch is a famous English handicap race for three-year-old plus horses run at Newmarket Racecourse over the long distance of 2 miles and 2 furlongs, in almost a straight line (just one bend after 10 furlongs).

It is run in mid-October, and was first run in 1839 in honour of the Russian Crown Prince, the Tsesarevich, who visited the United Kingdom and who later became Tsar Alexander II of Russia.
