Chad Michael Murray (born August 24, 1981 in Buffalo, New York) is an American actor, former male fashion model and teen idol.

Biography

Early life

Murray was born in Buffalo, New York; he has four brothers (Rex, Nick, Brandon, and half brother Tyler) and a sister, Shannon. His father works as an air traffic controller and his mother left the family when he was 10 years old and returned when he was 18. Murray's first job was at the age of ten as a newspaper delivery boy; he also worked at a doughnut shop. Murray describes himself as a loner and a "nerd" in high school. He had a portion of his small intestine removed as the result of a football injury, so it is difficult for him to gain weight. Murray also broke his nose when a guy at a Panama Burger King "jumped" him and he got punched in the face. There was no way to fix it other than to reset it. Therefore, his nose looks different from when he started modeling.

During a hospital visit, a nurse recommended that he pursue a modelling career; a few years later, he went back to the hospital with roses to thank her, but she no longer worked there.

Career

Chad orginally moved to Hollywood in the late 90's to pursue a career in modelling. At the age of 17 he packed up and left home - in turn he got gigs modelling for Skechers, Tommy Hilfiger, and Gucci.

After experiecning fame he turned his hand to acting and gained a guest starring role as Charley on Dawson's Creek - quickly followed by a guest stint on Gilmore Girls and a 1 episode role in "CSI".

In 2002 he shot his first movie Freaky Friday opposite Lindsay Lohan & Jamie Lee Curtis. He played Lohans love interest "Jake".

After this he gained the lead starring role in Summer movie A Cinderella Story opposite Hilary Duff. The couples on screen chemistry was applauded by critics and a media frenzy of rumors between Chad & 16 year old Duff ensued. Duff, already a major star in her own right brought a lot of press attention to Murray and he became recognised in his own right, although for being a hotty. The movie eventually went on to make over $66 million worldwide.

In 2003 Chad auditioned for 2 tv shows. The O.C. & One Tree Hill. He won both roles, both lead roles, and was left with a dilemma of what to take. In the end he took One Tree Hill - a show on The WB & filmed in Wilminton, North Carolina. Chad said he took this role because he felt his charecter of Lucas was deeper - and the show was less flashy.

Although this could be a decision Chad was left to later regret. The ratings of One Tree Hill were not great at the beginning of the season - sometimes dropping below 3 million and left with more than 1 threat of cancellation by the network. However The O.C. quickly became the latest tv senstation. It's ratings were above 10 million (something almost unheard of for a TV show) and it sent it's main cast, especially Mischa Barton & Rachel Bilson, head first into the media spotlight. They quickly became "Young - hot Hollywood" and the show went for strength to strength and OTH slided.

Although in season 2 ratings improved vastly they still couldn't compete with "The Oc". Although storylines are deeper and the show gains more critical acclaim than it's rivals "The OC" continues to outpeak & outshine "One Tree Hill" in every sense of the word.

In the summer of 2004 Chad filmed House Of Wax opposite socialite Paris Hilton and old friend Jared Padalecki. Although backed highly by Paris' star power it bombed in theaters.

In the summer of 2006 Chad filmed the movie Home Of The Brave.

He is also rumored to start work on a romantic comedy with House Of Wax co-star Elisha Cuthbert sometimes in late '06.

Personal life

On April 16, 2005, Murray wed his One Tree Hill co-star Sophia Bush in Santa Monica, California. The couple announced their separation on September 26, 2005 after only five months of marriage.[link] Bush sought an annulment (citing "fraud") in February 2006.[link]

Bush spoke of the breakup in the February 2006 issue of the teen magazine CosmoGirl, stating "I can't say there are no hard feelings... I feel hurt, humiliated and broken hearted." She did not go into details about the break-up, but stated that she was shocked at the accuracy of some of the reports about the reasons for the split. [link] Chad had been widely rumoured to be having an affair with uber socialite Paris Hilton.

People magazine reported in April 2006 that Murray was engaged to One Tree Hill crew member Kenzie Dalton.[link] Dalton said they had been dating since December 2005.[link]. In November 2005, Dalton was first runner-up in the Miss North Carolina Teen USA contest. Kenzie and Chad started dating when Kenzie was 17, but they announced they were dating after she had become 18 years old.

Murray is an anti-drug role model for kids and is active in charities for children and teens during his spare time. He admires the talents of actors Edward Norton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Sean Penn and uses their influences in his work. His favorite television show is The Simpsons and his favorite football team is the Buffalo Bills.
