Chancellorsville is an unincorporated village in Virginia, about twenty miles west of Fredericksburg. It is located in Spotsylvania and Orange Counties. The American Civil War Battle of Chancellorsville occurred there, and the Wilderness is generally considered part of the village and its surrounding area. Both battles' monuments are located near the village. Chancellorsville was also where General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson was wounded by friendly fire. At present, portions of the Chancellorville battlefield are under threat of development. Most of the battlefield is now protected in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park.
