Charles Haskins Townsend

Charles Haskins Townsend, Sc.D. (1859-1944) was an American zoölogist, born at Parnassus, Pennsylvania. From 1883 to 1902 he was connected with the United States Fish Commission. In 1896 he was an expert before the Russo-American fisheries arbitration at The Hague. In 1912-13 he was president of the American Fisheries Society. Also, he served as director of the New York Aquarium at Castle Garden, from 1902 until his retirement in 1937.
He is commemorated in the name of Townsend's Shearwater.
