Sir Charles Henry Darling, KCB (1862) (February 19, 180925 January 1870) colonial governor born Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia and died 7 Lansdowne Crescent, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.

Darling was educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst and served in the military in Barbados, the Windward Islands, and Jamaica with 57th Foot Regiment. He started his colonial service while in Jamaica and became lieutenant-governor of St. Lucia in 1847. He became governor of the Cape Colony in South Africa in 1851. He became governor of Newfoundland in 1855.

Darling supported the British suggestions granting the French more fishing rights in waters of Newfoundland between Cape St. John and Cape Ray to the total disagreement of the Newfoundland government which ultimately lead to the end of his term in office.

Darling became governor and captain-chief of Jamaica in 1857 then governor of Victoria, Australia 1863-66.

He was son of Major-General Henry Darling. He was nephew of General Sir Ralph Darling.

Married first, St George, Barbados 2 May 1835, Anne Wilhelmina Dalzell (born 18 July 1813, bap St George, Barbados 7 August 1813; died Tobago 16 October 1837), dau of Allan Dalzell of Buttalls (died 21 December 1825) and Elizabeth Ann Harding (married St Philip, Barbados 13 April 1811). They had a son, died in infancy. Sir Charles married secondly Christ Church, Barbados, 14 December 1839, Mary Ann Nurse, (died of yellow fever in St Lucia 6 November 1848), eldest dau of Hon Joshua Bushell Nurse (d.14 July 1839), member of the legislative council of Barbados. Married thirdly Ilfracombe, N Devon, 10 December 1851, Elizabeth Isabella Caroline Salter (born Caen, B S France c.1820 [2] died Marylebone 10 December 1900), only daughter of Christopher Salter of West End House, Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire.
