Charles Hotham

Captain Sir Charles Hotham, KCB, RN, (January 14, 1806 - December 31, 1855) was Lieutenant-governor of Victoria, Australia from (June 1854 - 31 December 1855). Hotham was appointed in December 1853, arrived in June 1854 but was sworn in as Governor only in May 1855.
Hotham was governor at the time of the Eureka Stockade. When Hotham became governor, replacing La Trobe, he enforced mining licensing laws. In November 1854 he failed to negotiate with miners' protest groups.
He tendered his resignation in November 1855 and died soon afterwards while still in Melbourne.
