Charles MacLay

Charles Maclay (1822 or 1823] – 19 July 1890) was a California State Senator. His heritage was from Ireland and Scotland. A former California State Assemblyman in the 7th District from Santa Clara County and California State Senator. Around 1874, he bought 56,000 acres (227 km²) of land in the northern part of the San Fernando Valley north of the city of Los Angeles. In 1882, cousins George K. Porter and Benjamin F. Porter Porter Ranch California each received one — third each of the total land.
In 1960, Charles Maclay Junior High School opened in his honor. In the late 1990s the school was renamed Charles Maclay Middle School in Pacoima California. Their slogan is Home of the Scotsman.
