The Chesapeake Colonies, which were colonies surrounding the Chesapeake Bay, made their living by fishing, docking ships, and running plantations. The Chesapeake Colonies were Colony and Dominion of Virginia, later Virginia and Province of Maryland, later Maryland.

They are sometimes considered part of the Southern Colonies. Maryland is sometimes considered part of the Middle Colonies.
