Cheryl Kaye Tardif is a Canadian mystery writer best known for her novels Whale Song, Divine Intervention, and The River. Cheryl's novels feature prominent Canadian locations and characters along with plotlines involving societal issues.
Biography
Cheryl Kaye Tardif was born on August 12, 1963 in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Larry Norman Kaye and Mary Elizabeth McLellan (Hanna). Cheryl is an 'army brat' and an 'army wife' who has lived all across Canada. Now residing in Edmonton, Alberta, with her husband, Marc, her daughter, Jessica, and the family dog, she considers herself an “Edmonton author” as Edmonton has become the place she calls home. Her pride in Canada is evident in her novels as they all take place in Canada.Tardif completed a course in Journalism and Short Story Writing and graduated with Highest Honors. She worked as a motivational speaker for a respected international company. She has written material for a number of companies, and she has also worked as a consultant in telemarketing, sales and promotion.
In 2004, Tardif was nominated for the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Award. In 2003, she wrote a public service announcement for a racial harmony campaign. Her PSA script, One Voice ~ One World placed third and was produced and aired on cable channels in Alberta. Other work has been published over the years in small Canadian newspapers. Her most recent novel, The River, was released in September 2005.
Cheryl Kaye Tardif has been interviewed by Shaw TV Red Deer, Shaw TV Edmonton, RDTV, Global TV, CFRN TV, and A-Channel TV. She has also been interviewed on CJSR's "Liquid Chatter Talk Radio" and on New Age Radio in Waukegan, Illinois. She has been featured in The Edmonton Examiner, Edmonton Woman Magazine, Alberta Native News, California Chronicle and Real Estate Weekly (Edmonton). According to photojournalist, Heather Andrews Miller, who interviewed the author for Real Estate Weekly, Cheryl Kaye Tardif is a “gem in the literary world”.
Tardif "specializes in mile-a-minute pot-boiler mysteries, usually set in Western Canadian locales", stated Graham Hicks of the Edmonton Sun[link]. Tardif penned two previous novels, Whale Song and Divine Intervention. Whale Song is "A wise, enchanting story..." said The Edmonton Examiner. A screenplay for Whale Song was sent to a leading Canadian film producer in 2005. Cheryl Kaye Tardif has also started Divine Justice, the second in the Divine mystery series.
Whale Song has strong societal messages involving racism, bullying, tragedy, betrayal, and forgiveness. Divine Intervention carries a message about what can happen to abandoned children caught in the foster care web. The River takes a look at how far we have gone with our technology in our search for youth and eternal life; it is a combination of suspense, sci-fi and adventure and is based loosely on stories from the Nahanni River area of Canada’s Northwest Territories.
