Chiaki J. Konaka (小中千昭 Konaka Chiaki, born April 4 1961) is a Japanese scriptwriter who works predominantly on anime.
His serious works generally have a dark, psychological tone. He is most well known for the anime Serial Experiments Lain. Being a fan of both Neon Genesis Evangelion and the works of HP Lovecraft, Konaka tends to add elements from them into his works.
Chiaki J. Konaka is a very unusual name, as Japanese names never include middle names. The "J." part of his name is also not part of the original Kanji writing of his name. He adopted the middle initial when writing his name in Roman characters and goes by this name in situations requiring romanized version of his name.
