Chief Minister of Guernsey
Encyclopedia : C : CH : CHI : Chief Minister of Guernsey
This post was created following the Machinery of Government review which came into effect 1 May, 2004.
The current post holder is Deputy Laurie Morgan. He was elected by the States of Guernsey in their first meeting of May 2004 and beat fellow Deputies Bernard Flouquet, who was elected Deputy Chief Minister, and Deputy Mike Torode. His term of office will end on 30 April, 2008. If he is re-elected in the General Election, he may well stand again for the post of Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister is the head of the Policy Council, roughly equivalent to the British Government's Cabinet.
