Chief Minister of the Isle of Man

The Chief Minister of the Isle of Man is the Executive Member of the Isle of Man's parliament; Tynwald. The Chief Minister is elected by Members of Tynwald after a General Election for a term in office of five years. The incumbent is eligible to stand again at the end of their term (if they are still a Member of Tynwald). The post of Chief Minister was introduced in December 1986. Prior to that the Head of Government was the Chairman of the Executive Council.

A new Chief Minister will be elected following the General Election in November 2006. Candidates for election to the House of Keys do not have to declare that they intend to stand for post of Chief Minister prior to the General Election. No Member of Tynwald has yet declared their intention to stand for the post.
