Chionoecetes

This crab is known by different names across the globe:
- In America, snow crab, opilio, and spider crab, as well as bairdi, and tanner crab
- In Canada, queen crab
- In Japan,
- *Generally, ずわい蟹 (Zuwai gani)
- *Fukui and Ishikawa Prefectures, えちぜん蟹 (Echizen gani)
- *Kyoto, 松葉蟹 (Matsuba gani, lit. pine-needle crab)
Snow crab are caught as far north as the Arctic Ocean, from Newfoundland to Greenland in the Atlantic Ocean, and all over the Pacific Ocean, including the Sea of Japan, the Bering Sea, the Gulf of Alaska, Norton Sound, and even as far south as California for C. bairdi.
Fishing for opilio crab has been the focus of the second halves of both seasons of "Deadliest Catch" on the Discovery Channel.
