Chipp Zanuff
Encyclopedia : C : CH : CHI : Chipp Zanuff
Chipp Zanuff is a character in the Guilty Gear fighting game series and one of the three American characters, the other two being Sol-Badguy, and Johnny. He's the fastest character in the game and has a distinct 3rd Air Jump. His two overdrive attacks and many of his slashes and kicks mimic Dragon Ball Z style pursuit moves, with a slight teleportation effect due to his Ninja Speed. His main weapon is a curved blade mounted on his forearm, which curves toward his elbow.
Gameplay
Chipp concentrates on speed. Many Guilty Gear players consider Chipp to be a good complement to a powerhouse like Potemkin (Who concentrates on Power in place of manueverablity). His three level jump is a must as far as moves to get used to, but his stun attacks are far more abusive when considering his speed. With certain attributes like his moves that use his speed within the moves themselves, he becomes harder to pin down during a match. A few of his moves are like those found on a Street Fighter character, such as Ryu and Ken.Chipp's weaknesses are that he has little defense, and that his speed makes his attacks easy to overshoot. The quarter-circle motions that make up most of his moves are easily confused too, so button mashers may have a difficult time learning in his utilization. In the case of his defense, he takes more damage than most characters (probably to "balance" him with the other characters because of his speed). One of his more useful tactics is using his "Gamma Blade" attack as a reset, allowing further combos after knocking the opponent down. However, the timing for this is rather strict in most cases.
Story
Background
(Quoted from the American release Guilty Gear X Instruction Manual) "A former drug trafficker and addict, Chipp entered the previous Tournament to take revenge against the Mafia for killing his master, who saved his life and taught him the ways and beliefs of the Ninja. But during his battles, Chipp realised he lacked the devotion to complete the task at hand, and decided to go back into training. Now, he is once again ready to go out in search of that which might truly save him, and so, he focuses his interest on the story of the Gear."Guilty Gear: The Missing Link
Chipp enters the second order tournament to carry on his quest of vengance.Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival
(Copied from the American release of Guilty Gear X2 story mode.)"P.W.A.B. Report #5236: Born as an orphan, subject grew up to become an illegal drug trafficker and narcotics addict. He was saved by a man named Tsuyoshi, who taught him the basics of Ninjutsu combat. Subject is the only known man alive who still uses this Japanese form of attack. He also uses the force of Ki in his moves, presumably taught to him by Tsuyoshi as well. It is safe to assume that the subject has had extensive training with Ki force. If we can procure this fighting style for our own use, the benefits would be immeasurable. Although a highly skilled fighter, subject is a very straightforward man who has little in the way of mental defenses. A swift capture is highly recommended. He is considered to be moderately dangerous.---Risk Rating: B"
Chipp starts off his quest once more only to be interrupted by Dizzy possessed by Necro who happens to have just fallen from the Mayship 20,000 ft high. After swiftly getting away he encounters other characters including Bridget, Ky, Faust and Eddie. The story splits from there, Chipp either encounters Venom who after his defeat (by Chipp of course) makes a deal with Chipp, if he becomes President he may use the guild to his needs, in the second ending he meets Slayer who taunts Chipp; Chipp vows to become stronger in order to defeat Slayer and in the final ending he gains knowledge of the Postwar Administration Bureau after defeating Robo-Ky and learns of his role in their plans.
