Citrus County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. As of 2000, the population was 118,085. Its county seat is Inverness, Florida6.

History
Citrus County was created in 1887. It was named for the county's citrus trees. Citrus production declined dramatically after the "Big Freeze" of 1894-1895.Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,002 km² (773 mi²). 1,512 km² (584 mi²) of it is land and 490 km² (189 mi²) of it (24.49%) is water.Adjacent Counties
