Citrus County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. As of 2000, the population was 118,085. Its county seat is Inverness, Florida ⁶.

History

Citrus County was created in 1887. It was named for the county's citrus trees. Citrus production declined dramatically after the "Big Freeze" of 1894-1895.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,002 km² (773 mi²). 1,512 km² (584 mi²) of it is land and 490 km² (189 mi²) of it (24.49%) is water.
