City Avenue
Encyclopedia : C : CI : CIT : City Avenue
City Avenue is the local name of a section of U.S. Route 1, and is a major commercial and residential arterial street that divides the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the suburban communities of Bala Cynwyd, Merion Station, & Penn Wynne which are all located in Lower Merion Township and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Many locals referred to the street as City Line Avenue because of the city/suburban divide. However, that is partially true because City Avenue serves as a county line between Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties too. Furthermore, the street divides the local phone area codes with 215 & 267 in Philadelphia and 610 & 484 in Lower Merion. It changes names at Haverford Avenue, where it becomes Township Line Road, which seperates Upper Darby Township and Haverford Township.
