Chester is a local government district in Cheshire, North West England, with the status of a city.
Apart from Chester itself, the district covers a large rural area. Other settlements include Malpas and Tarvin.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974, when the existing city and county borough of Chester expanded to include Chester Rural District and Tarvin Rural District.
