This constituency covers the city of York.Boundary review
Following their review of parliamentary representation in North Yorkshire, the Boundary Commission for England have recommended the creation of two new seats for the City of York.Both existing City of York and Vale of York seats will be abolished and replaced by two new constituencies, namely;

- 1945 – 1950: J Corlett, Labour
- 1950 – 1959: Harry Hylton-Foster, Conservative
- 1959 – 1966: CB Longbottom, Conservative
- 1966 – 1983: Alex Lyon, Labour
- 1983 – 1992: Conal Gregory, Conservative
- 1992 – present: Hugh Bayley, Labour
