Ciudad Real (the name means Royal City) is a city in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It is the capital of the province of Ciudad Real.
The city was founded by King Alfonso X in the 13th century to fight against the Military Order of Calatrava.
Its population is 65,048 (as of 2002), about an eighth of the population of the province.
It has a stop on the AVE high-speed rail line and has begun to grow as a long-distance commuter suburb of Madrid.
