Civil unions in Finland were granted in the form of registered partnerships in 2002.

The legislature grants similar rights and responsibilities as married partners. Registration and dissolution is undertaken in a similar manner to marriage. Joint custody is allowed. Immigration rights to a foreign partner are granted. Registration is available only to same-sex couples.
