Rock climbing

Climbing Techniques can be divided into Three basic categories. In reality, these techniques apply to all of the forms of climbing

Face climbing:

Vertical: The original stlye of hard bolted face climbing that blurs the line between trad and sport. Hard on the tendons. See edging
Over-hanging: The new age jug hauling express. Less injury prone due to safer falls and bigger hand holds that are easier on the body.
Slab climbing: Slab climbing tends to be low angle, bolt protected face climbing put up in a traditional manner. The primary means of moving up the rock is through the use of his/her feet. The climber wants to keep all his weight centered over his feet with as much of the sole of his foot in contact with the rock. Smearing Hands are mainly used to stay in balance over you feet.

Crack climbing is named according to which size body part, best fits in it.

Finger cracks: Positive but sometimes scary if you think your finger might get stuck
Hand Cracks: The most solid and comfortable. Like a jug.
Off-widths: The most awkward and insecure. Like wrestling.
Chimneys: Body size, Secure but often unprotected
