Clonewheel organ
Encyclopedia : C : CL : CLO : Clonewheel organ
A Clonewheel organ is a musical instrument that emulates the sound of the tonewheel organs formerly manufactured by Hammond, using sampling and digital signal processing. Clonewheels can be either actual keyboard instruments or keyboardless MIDI modules.
Though actual tonewheel organs are still widely available second-hand, they are not especially practical for stage use because of their considerable weight and bulk, and the ongoing need for maintenance of the many moving parts and 1930s-era electronics.
Major clonewheel organs include:
- Roland VK-7
- Clavia Nord Electro
- Hammond/Suzuki XK-1, XK-2 and XK-3
- Hammond/Suzuki New B-3
- Korg CX-3
- Voce V3,V5, V5+ and Key5
- Oberheim OB-3 and OB-3 Squared
- E-MU B-3 module
