Club Atlético Banfield
Encyclopedia : C : CL : CLU : Club Atlético Banfield
Club Atlético Banfield is a professional football (soccer) team from Banfield, a village in the Buenos Aires Province and 14 km south of Buenos Aires. The club was founded in 1896 and was named after Edward Banfield, a British executive of the railroad company Gran Ferrocarril Sur.
The club is also referred as 'El Taladro' (The Driller), because in 1930 the newspaper 'El Pampero' said his forwards "drilled" rival defences.
Banfield is traditionally one of the largest and most supported clubs in the south of the Gran Buenos Aires metropolitan area in the Buenos Aires Province, and the biggest of the partido (district) called Lomas de Zamora.
