Coconut Rough
Encyclopedia : C : CO : COC : Coconut Rough
Coconut Rough were a New Zealand pop/rock band featuring Andrew Snoid and Mark Bell, among others. They named themselves after a type of Anzac sweet treat. They had one hit single with 1983's "Sierra Leone", a song that hit the top five in the New Zealand pop charts. Despite this nearly-immediate success, the band found themselves with little support from their record label (Mushroom Records) upon completion of their 1984 debut album; this contributed heavily to the band's dissolution. The last person to become a member of the band, guitarist Bones Hillman, eventually became the replacement lead singer for the Aussie group Midnight Oil upon Peter Garrett's departure.
