College Level Examination Program

Encyclopedia : C : CO : COL : College Level Examination Program

The College Level Examination Program (or CLEP) is a series of tests offered by the College Board. Currently, 36 subject tests are offered, in areas including business, science and mathematics, history and social sciences, foreign languages, and composition and literature. CLEP exams are offered on college and university campuses, as well as military installations.

CLEP subject exams usually correspond to introductory level college courses, and for most tests a passing grade will result in the granting of three or more credits by a college. Many students take CLEP exams because of their convenience and low cost compared to a semester or more of coursework for comparable credit.
