Color calibration
Encyclopedia : C : CO : COL : Color calibration
Color calibration uses hardware or software to make the colors in a computer monitor more accurately reflect a recognised standard. This standard is often determined through reference to the particular colour profile used by a particular printing device. Many Adobe Systems programs ship with a free software calibration software. Monitor calibration is used mainly by photographers and graphic artists to ensure an accurate match between the on-screen and printed versions of images.
Apple Computer's Mac OS X includes a limited set of ICC "Color Profiles" with its ColorSync calibration utility. Notably, in contrast to many other manufacturers, Apple Computer uses only software controls for contrast, brightness and other settings on their displays.
