Colt XM148
Encyclopedia : C : CO : COL : Colt XM148
The XM148 was an experimental 40 mm grenade launcher manufactured by Colt Firearms and field tested during the Vietnam era.
It was designed for installation below the barrel on M16-type rifles, and was meant to replace the stand-alone M79. The launcher's barrel could slide forward to accept a new round into the breech. After problems with the experimental design were fixed, the XM148 was replaced by the improved M203, which is still the primary grenade launcher used by the US armed forces today.
