Computerized postage

Encyclopedia : C : CO : COM : Computerized postage

Computerized postage is the use of electronic equipment to meter and pay postage. Most systems include an electronic scale to measure the weight of the package in order to calculate the postage owed. Besides convenience, their primary advantage over stamp-based postage is their ability to print out exact amount due, avoiding the overpayment problem common with fixed-denomination stamps. However, computerized postage systems suffer from the trusted client problem.

Pitney Bowes is the manufacturer of the most popular systems.
