Concordia is a city in Cloud County, Kansas, United States. The population was 5,714 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Cloud County[Geographic references#6GR6].
Geography
Concordia is located at (39.569035, -97.658398)[Geographic references#1GR1].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²), all land.
Demographics
As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 5,714 people, 2,310 households, and 1,399 families residing in the city. The population density was 652.7/km² (1,689.0/mi²). There were 2,671 housing units at an average density of 305.1/km² (789.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.90% White, 0.58% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.74% of the population.There were 2,310 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 8.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.4% were non-families. 33.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.24 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the city the population was spread out with 21.3% under the age of 18, 13.5% from 18 to 24, 21.9% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 83.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,398, and the median income for a family was $40,389. Males had a median income of $27,764 versus $20,885 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,019. About 7.1% of families and 12.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.3% of those under age 18 and 10.1% of those age 65 or over.
