Conejo Valley
Encyclopedia : C : CO : CON : Conejo Valley
The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwestern Los Angeles County in Southern California. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by the Spanish government (conejo means "rabbit" in Spanish, of which there are many in the area). The Santa Clara River Valley is due north.
Many high-tech companies, particularly those in biotechnology, including Amgen and Baxter, are prevalent in the area. Although the region is predominantly white with a large Hispanic minority, there is a small, but growing, Asian minority in the region, many of which work in the region's many high-tech companies.
