Cookie's Fortune

Encyclopedia : C : CO : COO : Cookie's Fortune

Cookie's Fortune is a 1999 feature film, directed by Robert Altman. It stars an ensemble cast, including Patricia Neal, Charles Dutton, Julianne Moore, Glenn Close, Liv Tyler and Chris O'Donnell. The film is an accurate portrayal of small town Southern life, in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

When a small american town's veteran old aged pensioner Jewel-Mae Orchid tires of her widowed life, she decides to take one of her late husband's rifles from the closet and kill herself. Discovered by her self-centred playwrite neice Camille (Glenn Close) and her eccentrically odd and incledibly shy younger sister (played wonderfully by Julianne Moore), Cammille decides to set the suicide up as a murder. The key suspect is Charles S. Dutton, the local buck who just so happens to have cleaned the guns pretty much every day of his life. What follows is a very interesting tale of how a shocking incident casts a ripple among a group of small-town oddballs. The ensemble cast includes Chris O'Donnell and Liv Tyler.
