Cookie Crisp is a breakfast cereal created in the early 1970s. It is currently manufactured by General Mills in the United States and Cereal Partners (under the Nestlé brand) in other countries.
Past mascots
The original Cookie Crisp mascot, Cookie Jarvis (1971 - 1983), was a wizard in the Merlin mold, with a wand, long robe, pointy hat, and big white beard. Both the wand and the pointy hat were decorated with chocolate chip cookies. During his administration as Cookie Crisp mascot, Cookie Jarvis actually presided over three versions of Cookie Crisp: Ralston's Chocolate Chip Cookie Crisp, Vanilla Wafer Cookie Crisp, and Oatmeal Cookie Crisp. With one wave of his wand, Cookie Jarvis magically turned cereal bowls into cookie jars, usually chanting rhyming incantations along with it.Later on, they decided to go for a different mascot, and came up with the Cookie Crook (1980 - 1997). The Cookie Crook was the anti-hero mascot and one of the earliest mascots for the cereal, who often attempted to steal the Cookie Crisp. He has a comb moustache, and wears a red chef's hat with cookies all over it. He also wears a black mask that goes over his face and nose, and a purple shirt. He was removed from the cereal, leaving the Officer Crumb and Chip the Dog.
Along with the Cookie Crook came Officer Crumb (1983 - 1997). Officer Crumb is a police officer, who was always trying to thwart the attempts of the Cookie Crook from stealing the Cookie Crisp, but he lost more often than he won. He is dressed in a standard blue police uniform, has a big nose, with a brown, thick moustache underneath it, and a unibrow hanging over his eyes. He spoke in an Irish accent and often was a dimunitive character.
A new mascot was introduced alongside the Cookie Crook and Officer Crumb in the early 1990s. Chip the Dog (1991 – 2005) is the ally of the Cookie Crook. He howled the cereal's tagline "Cooooooookie Crisp!" Chip wears a light purple sweater and black mask, and has brown and black fur. In 1997, he took over as the main mascot when they got rid of the Cookie Crook and Officer Crumb, giving him a new look: wearing a red sweater and no mask. The newer commercials with Chip the Dog as the main mascot were mostly about him offering Cookie Crisp to some kids, but then being stopped by an adult who says that cookies are not a breakfast food. Chip would let the adult have some, convincing them to change their mind.
Current advertisement campaign
In 2005, a new mascot replaced Chip the Dog and the previous marketing campaign. Chip the Wolf (previously known as Howler) was a grey-furred wolf depicted wearing a red sweater and is the current mascot of Cookie Crisp. The commercials often depict him trying to steal the Cookie Crisp from the children, using several different schemes to get them, but failing each and every time. These commercials stray from the style of the older commercials, going with a more Trix rabbit style opposed to the other mascots' styles.Later in 2005, a peanut butter-flavored variety of Cookie Crisp was introduced, titled Peanut Butter Cookie Crisp. This was probably because a parent would rather buy their kid a cereal with peanut butter in it than some of the other sugar cereals.
In 2006, a double chocolate flavored variety of Cookie Crisp was introduced, titled Double Chocolate Cookie Crisp.
