Coral fungi

Encyclopedia : C : CO : COR : Coral fungi

Coral fungi are mushrooms that are so named due to their appearance to aquatic coral. Generally edible but typically too small to be worth gathering, some have been reported to have strong laxative effects. They should be cropped while young, when old they are fibrous and seems to have been dried out. They become toxic when cut with metal knife or washed in metal sieves; clean them only with wodden tools. They are similar in structure to both jelly fungi and club fungi. They are often brightly coloured,& they grow in woods or decaying trees.
