Corned beef pie

Encyclopedia : C : CO : COR : Corned beef pie

Corned beef pie is one of the most common British pies. It contains corned beef, onion and often potato.

It can be eaten hot or cold, making it a common picnic food.

The corned beef from which the pie derives its name is often tinned corned beef (Bully beef).

The pie is often constructed with a shortcrust or other mechanically stable base crust and a flakey pastry top.

In Australia, corned beef pie (generally with potato and tinned corned beef) is one of the few exclusively and iconically British foods consumed at picnics and similar events, being almost unknown to any group except British (especially Scots) expatriots.
