Couch Potatoes was a game show that premiered on January 23, 1989 hosted by Double Dare host Marc Summers. It lasted for 8 months in syndication.
Game play
On Couch Potatoes the daily game show 2 teams of contestants tested their knowledge of TV past and present. Like comedy, game shows., etc. Each team was composed of 3 friends each of whom took the name of one of his or her favorite TV shows.There were 4 rounds of play. And each round began with a tune=in question, worth 25 rating points, and the team answered correcly earn additional points by answering 3 ''spin-off questions. Team members could answer one question of the spin-off questions and a wrong answer gave their oppnents control.
Catch-Up
After 4 rounds, teams were given a chance to earn additional points in the couch-up round. One member of each team participated at a time, trying to answe a trivia question with the point value determined at random. Points ranged from 50-200 points to an automatic couch-up, where a team could catch up to their oppnents score if they were behind. This round consisted of each player answering 2 questions. Now, the team with the most points won the game and $1,000.Channel Roulette
The winning team played Channel Roulette bonus round for $5,000. The goal was to try to accumulate 1,000 points in 30 seconds by choosing a chanel (2-13) and identifying the TV show pictured on the screen. Each channel had a different point value with the exception of one channel. That channel was PAY-TV and if chosen, the team lost all their accumulated points up to that point, although if they didn't reach 1,000 points within the time limit, they still got $1 per point.Guest stars
During the 8 month run Couch Potatoes had, they saw a few celebrity guests on the show. Even game show celebrities like, Bob Eubanks, Wink Martindale, and Gary Owens.
