Crafoord Prize

Encyclopedia : C : CR : CRA : Crafoord Prize

The Crafoord Prize was established in 1980 by Holger Crafoord, the inventor of the artificial kidney, and his wife Anna-Greta Crafoord. Administered by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the aim of the prize is to reward and promote basic research in scientific disciplines that fall outside the categories of the Nobel Prize. These fields include mathematics, geoscience, bioscience (particularly in relation to ecology and evolution), and astronomy.

Only one award is given each year. The prize is currently US$500,000 and is intended to fund further research by the prize winner.
