Craig Kilborn (born August 24, 1962) is an American comedian and former talk show host.
Kilborn was born in Kansas City, Missouri, though he moved with his family to Hastings, Minnesota when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1982. Kilborn, who stands 6'5", attended college at Montana State University where he played college basketball.
After working in several smaller jobs following college, Kilborn hit the big time when was hired as a SportsCenter anchor by the cable sports network ESPN in 1993. Kilborn spent most of his time at ESPN working as anchor of the 1 AM EST version of SportsCenter and gained a large fan following in the process. In 1996 Kilborn was hired to host The Daily Show on Comedy Central, and it was here when he first generated controversy. In a 1997 interview with Esquire, Kilborn joked that Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead "does find me very attractive. If I wanted her to blow me, she would." [link]. Kilborn was suspended for a week for his comments, and Winstead later quit the show.
Kilborn's stint at the Daily Show had lasted only a couple seasons when another opportunity presented itself. David Letterman's production company World Wide Pants wanted to have Kilborn replace the retiring Tom Snyder on the Late Late Show on CBS. Kilborn accepted, and his last Daily Show episode aired on December 17, 1998 (he would later be replaced by Jon Stewart, under whom the show's popularity surged) . Kilborn hosted the Late Late Show for five years before resigning in August 2004 (succeeded by Craig Ferguson) to participate in the film industry. Kilborn made his motion picture acting debut with a small role in Old School (2003). In 2006, he appeared in three major motion pictures: The Shaggy Dog, The Benchwarmers, and Full of It.
Kilborn, who has never married, revealed in a 1998 TV Guide interview that he had a son who was born in 1987 from a previous relationship, but he declined to identify the child's mother. - Kilborn made a return appearance to Sports Center on August 8, 2004 when he co-hosted Sports Center with Dan Patrick during ESPN's 25th anniversary celebration (ESPN25).
