Cranky
Encyclopedia : C : CR : CRA : Cranky
Cranky the Crane is a miserable dockside crane featured in Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. Cranky helps to lift big items in the docks. He first appears in Cranky Bugs, in which he teases Thomas the Tank Engine and Percy the Small Engine, but learns his lesson as a shed makes him fall on his side.
Cranky rarely gets rest as he is so busy loading and unloading items from ships and onto railway trucks. As a result, he often blames his short-temper on waiting for "slow, little engines". In "Horrid Lorry", it is Cranky who suggests that the Sodor Railway should bring in lorries to help with the workload.
Cranky is only ever happy when people leave him alone, but he does work hard to please The Fat Controller as he too is owned by the railway. Cranky can be moved from place to place, as long as it's 'absolutely necessary'.
The grumpy crane is not based around any known form of dockside crane in existence, but he is meant to serve as one. He can be decided as a heavily modified tower crane with a short boom. Cranky is also the first crane on the Island who interacts with the engines unlike the others who appear to just lie motionless (Like the Sodor Crane).
