Crişana
Encyclopedia : C : CR : CRI : Crişana
Crişana (Hungarian: Körösvidék, German: ) is a region of western Romania, along the border with Hungary, named after the three tributaries of the Körös River (Romanian: Criş) rivers that flow through it. The area was traditionally part of Hungary corresponding roughly to the Partium region but, since its transfer to Romania after World War I, it has been considered part of Transylvania. It is bounded by the Maramureş region to the north, Transylvania-proper to the east, Banat to the south, and the Hungarian Great Alföld to the west. The region consists of current Romanian counties of Arad and Bihor and is still home to a significant Hungarian minority.
