Crystal methamphetamine and sex
Encyclopedia : C : CR : CRY : Crystal methamphetamine and sex
Crystal d-methamphetamine hydrochloride (commonly known as "crystal meth", "crystal", or just "meth") is the crystalline form of methamphetamine, a powerful stimulant often used recreationally as a party drug.
Crystal is usually smoked in a glass pipe, eaten or swallowed ("parachuted"), snorted or injected. Crystal speeds up the activity of the central nervous system, increasing the breathing rate, heartbeat, blood pressure and body temperature and causing an increase in physical activity.
Crystal use is said to be particularly, but not exclusively, associated with young white men, women, and in the gay community. #redirect
Among the effects reported by crystal users is an increase in the need and urgency for sex, the ability to have sex for extended periods (hours or even days), and an inability to ejaculate or reach orgasm or physical release. #redirect While amphetamines tend to inhibit the ability to have an erection for many men, the combination of Viagra and other impotence medications with amphetamines has resulted "in the achievement of levels of sexual bliss never before known by humans", i.e. reflecting feelings presumably related to the sexual compulsivity referenced in [link] and the club and/or party use multiply referenced, below, including in [link] and [link].
According to most studies and reports, use of crystal meth among gay and bisexual men, including men who are aware they are HIV positive (see [2] above), is associated with highly unsafe sex practices, up to and including highly promiscuous, unprotected, anonymous or group sex, with a concommitant up to 5-fold increased incidence of STD's including HIV, syphilis, and lymphogranuloma venereum. For example, from the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association "Studies have found that methamphetamine use among gay and bisexual men is up to ten times higher than in the general population. A 2003 study by the Chicago Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that approximately 10% of gay men had used methamphetamine at least once in the previous year, compared with 0.7% of the general US population. Of those gay men who reported using meth, 20% were using at least once per week. Another study found that 20% of young gay and bisexual men had used crystal meth in the previous six months, with 6% reporting daily use." from [link]. See also
