Cumberland Valley

The Cumberland Valley is a geographic region that lies between South Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountains of central Pennsylvania and western Maryland, United States. The valley lies almost entirely within Cumberland and Franklin counties in Pennsylvania and Washington County, Maryland.
Just west of the Blue Ridge is the Great Valley, a natural lowland route running northeast-southwest. The Great Valley is known locally as the Cumberland Valley and has historically been admired for its fertile agricultural land. It is bound to the northeast by the Susquehanna River and its southern terminus is the Potomac River. Further south the Great Valley is known locally as the Shenandoah Valley. The Cumberland Valley Railroad is also named for the region. The valley lies within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
