Curonian lagoon

The Curonian Lagoon (or Bay, Gulf, Lithuanian: Kuršių Marios, Russian: Kуршский залив, German: Kurisches Haff) is sundered from the Baltic Sea by the Curonian Spit and belongs to Lithuania and Russia. The Neman River flows into the Curonian Lagoon. The lagoon itself is cut off from the Baltic Sea by the Curonian Spit. At the northern end of the spit, there is a passage where the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda is situated. The southern end of the split forms part of the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. The area around the lagoon was part of the ancestral lands of the Curonians and Old Prussians.
