Cyclades Corporation
Encyclopedia : C : CY : CYC : Cyclades Corporation
Cyclades Corporation was founded in 1991 in Fremont, California by two Brazilian engineers, Daniel Dalarossa and John Lima. Based upon their research and fascination with a wide-scale end-to-end network being design in France (an entirely new concept in the 1980s), Cyclades Corporation was named after the Cyclades Network project.
Cyclades Corporation spent the majority of the 1990s developing robust networking connectivity devices (i.e. async I/O cards and routers) and becoming one of the earliest driving forces behind remote access connectivity solutions for Linux platforms. In fact, Cyclades became the defacto standard for asynchronous RS232 dial-up modem cards for the rapidly growing Linux based ISP marketplace throughout the first half of the 1990s.
Today, Cyclades develops and delivers Out-of-Band Infrastructure (OOBI) hardware solutions for information technology (IT) infrastructure management. Credited with coining the phrase OOBI when referring to an Out-of-Band Infrastructure for systems and network management. Products include a range of remote access appliances that are based on embedded Linux and have remote capabilities including serial console servers, KVM over Internet Protocol switches, AC power control appliances, IPMI service processor managers, and managers of the various chassis-based blade systems.
In March 2006, Cyclades Corporation was purchased by Avocent Corporation and continues to create valued solutions for customers looking for out-of-band and remedial management solutions.
