Département ("department") is the name given to an administrative district of France and several other French-speaking countries.

In parenthesis the number of départements:

• Departments of Benin (13)
• Departments of Burkina Faso (301, below the 45 provinces)
• Départements of Cameroon (officially known as divisions in English) (58)
• Departments of Côte d'Ivoire (58)
• Départements of France (100, below région)
• Departments of Haiti (9)
• Departments of Niger (7)
• Departments of Senegal (34, below regions)

Other historical départements were created in the course of the Napoleonic Wars in the lands occupied by the French army or loyal governments.
